Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift assignment in California, requiring CA licensure and 2 years of L&D experience.

The role involves caring for labor and delivery, antepartum, mother/baby, and postpartum patients on a 3:1 nurse-to-patient ratio, with night shifts 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, no on-call, and Epic charting.

Qualifications

• Active CA RN license required.
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required.
• EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring) experience required.
• AWHONN Intermediate certification required.
• Epic charting system experience required.
• Community hospital experience preferred.
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred.
• 2 supervisor references obtained within the past year required.

Responsibilities

• Labor, antepartum, mother/baby, and postpartum patient care.
• Circulates for C-sections as part of care responsibilities.
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:3.
• Night shift, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 3x12-hour shifts.
• No on‑call requirements.
• No holiday or weekend requirements.
• No floating to other units required.
• Uses Epic charting system.
• Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, and postpartum stages.
• Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum delivery.
• Manage labor medications (Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives).
• Newborn care including APGAR scoring and thermoregulation.
• Postpartum care including fundus, lochia, peri assessment.
• Support breastfeeding and lactation education for new parents.
• Fetal monitoring and recognition of abnormal HR patterns.

• Nurse to patient ratios generally follow AWHONN staffing guidelines
• Must reside within a 50-mile radius to be eligible for local candidate rate
• Returning staff or travelers must have a 1-year separation before reapplying
• Maximum RTO of 7 days per contract, with only 1 holiday request approved per contract
• Holiday coverage observed for New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas
• Must complete lab work within 3-5 days of contract signing
• 7-year work history verification required for all candidates
• First-time travelers are not considered for this position
