Job summary

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for Labor & Delivery in California. This role requires strong IV skills and an Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification (AWHONN intermediate EFM).

The position includes 12-hour shifts (7a & 7p), weekend and holiday coverage, and travel-rate compensation. Ideal candidates have CA RN licensure, BLS/ACLS/NRP, 2+ years' experience, and Spanish language ability preferred.

Qualifications

• Active California RN license required.
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications required.
• Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification required (AWHONN intermediate EFM).
• Minimum 2 years of experience required.
• Strong IV skills required.
• Must be able to circulate C-sections.
• Bilingual Spanish skills preferred.
• Experience teaching and mentoring newer nurses preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acute care Labor and Delivery unit averaging 200-240 births per month.
• 9 labor beds plus 7 triage beds.
• Follows AWHONN staffing ratios, with 1:2 ratio for magnesium patients.
• Uses Cerner EMR along with Fetal Link and McRoberts MyChild for infant charting.
• Charge nurse staffed each shift, supported by OB techs.
• 12-hour day shifts, start times of 7a and 7p.
• Must work three weekend shifts within a four-week scheduling period.
• Holiday coverage required, varies and can be every other holiday.
• Floating to Postpartum unit required.
• No telemetry or ventilator patients on this unit.
• OB and anesthesia hospitalists in-house 24/7, with anesthesia on-call 24/7.
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7.
• On-call not required but may be available as an opportunity.
• 3-shift unit-specific orientation provided.
• Care for a diverse patient population including antepartum patients requiring magnesium therapy.
• Generally transfers out high-risk patients; epidural rate is lower than many other facilities.
• Level 2 satellite NICU physically located in the hospital attends deliveries as needed.
• No circumcisions performed at this facility.
• Expected to adhere to Baby Friendly and Golden Hour practices, including bathing babies in postpartum when applicable.
• Hourly rounding and bedside report/documentation required.
• Scrubs provided by the hospital.
• Must be dressed and ready to obtain report at shift start.
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted at travel rate.
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year.
