Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift travel assignment in Maryland. Requires at least 1 year of L&D experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.

Responsibilities include direct labor and delivery care, unit floating, and coverage for holidays; no on-call duties. Facility handles 100–200 births per month with a 1:3 patient ratio.

Qualifications

• Active MD or Compact RN license required.
• Current BLS, STABLE, and NRP certifications required.
• Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience.
• Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers not accepted.
• Experience with vaginal delivery assistance, C-section circulation, and recovery.
• Experience with obstetric hemorrhage/shock management.
• Sterile vaginal exams and postpartum care for cesarean and vaginal deliveries.
• Monitor analgesia: epidural, pain management, PCA pump use.
• Insulin drips, magnesium sulfate, and Pitocin administration.
• External Fetal Heart Monitoring (EFM).
• Obstetric triage, antepartum care, IV therapy, phlebotomy.
• CVC/PICC maintenance and blood product administration.
• Charge nurse experience preferred.
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Labor and Delivery unit within a hospital setting.
• Facility averages 100-200 births per month.
• Patient ratio of 1:3.
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
• Every other weekend required; holiday coverage as scheduled.
• Floating within the specialty; travelers prioritized for floating.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Epic charting system preferred.
• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery care including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum management.
• Participate in self-scheduling within the unit.
• Must be comfortable floating within scope with no restrictions.
• Returning staff must have been separated for 12 months; 6-month breaks between travel assignments.

• Candidates residing less than 50 miles from the facility are not accepted unless local candidates are specifically stated as accepted
• Returning staff must have been separated from the health system for at least 12 months prior to starting as a traveler
• Returning travelers must have at least a 6-month break from the system before returning
• Facility typically allows one contract and one extension before requiring a 6-month break before returning to the same unit
• Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
• Compliance documents must be submitted no later than 5 days prior to start date
