Job summary

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in a high-acuity, teaching hospital setting. The role requires 2+ years of L&D experience, a BSN, and an active PA license or Compact licensure.

Certifications including NRP, ACLS, BLS, and AWHONN intermediate/beginner are required, with EPIC charting used for documentation. The assignment is 13 weeks long, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:30 PM) with a patient ratio of 1–2.

Qualifications

• Must hold active PA license or Compact license.
• BSN is required.
• Minimum 2 years Labor and Delivery experience.
• Current certifications: NRP, ACLS, BLS.
• AWHONN Intermediate or Beginner cert (Advanced preferred).
• Experience caring for high-risk antepartum, delivery, and fetal monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care (antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum).
• Assist with high-risk deliveries including C-sections and vacuum/forceps as needed.
• Monitor medications (Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate) and obstetric meds.
• Provide neonatal care including APGAR scoring and initial resuscitation.
• Operate within Epic charting system; ensure patient safety and quality care.
• Maintain patient ratios (1-2) with 3x12 shifts; no floating.
• Support postpartum recovery and manage high-acuity cases (e.g., preeclampsia, HELLP).
• Participate in holiday coverage as required; weekend duties every 3rd weekend.

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring 2 years of specialty experience, BSN, and PA compact/state licensure.

Requirements

• Active PA or Compact RN license required
• BSN required
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
• Current certifications required: NRP, ACLS, BLS
• AWHONN Intermediate or Beginner certification required (Advanced preferred)
• Experience with high-risk antepartum, high-risk delivery, and fetal monitoring (external and internal) required
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and administration of blood products
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred due to high-acuity, fast-paced unit
• Valid references and copies of certifications required for consideration
• PA fingerprint clearance and background check required
• Pass/fail clinical exam required for consideration

Responsibilities

• Labor and Delivery unit within a teaching hospital setting
• Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• 13-week assignment length
• Patient ratio of 1-2
• No floating required
• Weekend requirement of every 3rd weekend, including Friday/Saturday nights
• No on-call requirements
• Holiday coverage required for at least 1 of Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, or New Year's Day

• Assist with high-risk deliveries, C-sections, and vaginal births including forceps/vacuum extraction as needed
• Manage medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and other obstetric medications
• Provide neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and initial resuscitation support
• Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and recognize/treat abnormalities using EFM and IUPC placement
• Support postpartum recovery including care for hemorrhage, multiple births, and cesarean section patients
• Care for high-acuity patients with conditions such as pre-eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, and placenta previa
• Candidates must reside within 50 miles for local rate consideration, though local candidates are accepted at a different rate
• Experienced travelers preferred due to the high-acuity, fast-paced nature of the unit
