Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to assist Project Managers in ensuring that work on site meets plans and specifications. The role emphasizes reviewing shop drawings, coordinating with architects and subcontractors, and contributing to cost-saving construction methods.

You will help prepare schedules, track progress, maintain logs, and participate in bidding and scope development for trade contractors, while upholding safety and quality standards on every project.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience in civil engineering, construction management, or related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication; clear writing and speaking with teams.
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel; ability to read blueprints.
• Willingness to adapt plans and collaborate with others to meet goals.
• Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements and general site safety practices.
• Ability to learn quickly and apply new job-related information.
• Experience with scheduling programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assures project plans and specifications are followed; reviews shop drawings and submittals.
• Reviews plans for value, constructability and communicates with architects on inconsistencies.
• Identifies cost-saving methods to save money on construction projects.
• Attends and documents project meetings; distributes minutes to participants.
• Publishes weekly progress reports and manages project information flow.
• Updates project schedules and tracks milestones for timely completion.
• Assists in bidding and develops scope of work for trade contractors.
• Collaborates with superintendent on scheduling shop drawings and material lists.
• Maintains logs of shop drawings, clarifications, change requests and proposals.
• Advises on concrete pours; inspects structural reinforcement and testing coordination.
• Ensures safety compliance and reports unsafe activities.
