Job summary

KEYS Academy seeks a licensed Special Education teacher to lead a structured, trauma-informed classroom serving students with emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs in Virginia. You will design individualized instruction aligned to IEP goals and a KEYS for a Big Life Curriculum, guided by the School Director.

You will implement evidence-based strategies, collaborate with support staff, and monitor student progress through Present Levels of Performance and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Active Virginia teaching license in Special Education required.
• Endorsement in Emotional Disabilities (ED) or SPED General Curriculum K–12 endorsement required.
• Must maintain licensure and required certifications throughout employment.
• Ability to meet state and federal background requirements and complete trainings on time.

Responsibilities

• Deliver SOL-aligned instruction and meet individual IEP goals.
• Differentiate instruction to support varied academic, behavioral, and communication needs.
• Embed social-emotional learning and communication skills in daily lessons.
• Use data to guide instructional decisions and monitor progress.
• Maintain a structured daily schedule and collaborate with paraprofessionals and staff.
• Serve as case manager for assigned students and participate in IEP meetings.
• Provide feedback to families and maintain progress reports.
• Adhere to laws, policies, confidentiality, and safety requirements.
