Job summary

The People Concern is seeking a Support Specialist for its 100% onsite shelter location in Los Angeles. The role is part-time and non-exempt, focused on delivering warm, trauma-informed client support and essential services.

Qualifications

Customer service skills expected and ability to handle difficult situations.
Professional conduct in all interactions with clients and staff.
Ability to think critically and work independently when needed.
Capable of teamwork within a shelter program and with partners.
Computer literacy and ability to use basic data systems.

Responsibilities

Act as first point of contact for immediate client needs and requests.
Monitor and oversee the property and ensure safety and cleanliness.
Be visible, welcoming, and engaged with clients and guests.
Conduct regular walkthroughs and wellness checks during shifts.
Document incident reports, shift logs, and case notes in HMIS.
Develop client relationships using motivational interviewing and trauma‑informed care.
Assist with crisis de-escalation and support shelter operations and staff.
