Job summary

The People Concern is seeking a full-time Support Specialist for the Kensington Campus in Lancaster, CA. You will be the first point of contact for client needs, coordinating basic services and ensuring a trauma-informed response to residents of the interim housing program.

You will monitor floors and spaces, engage clients, document in HMIS, and support a team delivering integrated care. This role is 100% onsite with a Tue-Sat schedule and non-management duties.

Qualifications

• First point of contact for client needs (trauma-informed care).
• Monitor floor and maintain safe, clean spaces.
• Engage clients, welcome and support progress toward stability.
• Document incidents, shift logs and updates in HMIS.
• Maintain client confidentiality and follow HIPAA laws.
• Team-based care for homeless individuals with mental health needs.

Responsibilities

• Act as the first point-of-contact for client needs such as phone use, linens, water.
• Oversee floor areas, ensure guidelines are followed and space is safe.
• Be visible on the floor and engage with clients.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs and safety checks.
• Create a supportive environment to promote client stability.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings, and retreats as scheduled.
• Record incidents and update logs; email updates before shift end.
• Build trust with clients using trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing.
• Intervene during crises to de-escalate situations safely.
• Collaborate with team to deliver integrated shelter services.
• Communicate effectively with management, peers, and clients.
• Maintain client confidentiality and comply with laws.
