The People Concern is seeking a part-time Support Specialist to provide compassionate, trauma-informed care at our Santa Monica shelter. You will be the first point of contact for clients, manage daily facility needs, and help ensure a welcoming, safe environment that supports client progress.

Responsibilities include engaging with clients, staff collaboration, conducting walkthroughs, and documenting activities and incidents.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required and one year of related experience.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to handle difficult situations.
• Ability to work independently, think critically and act professionally.
• Commitment to empowering the community with dignity and respect.
• Familiarity with non-violent crisis intervention and population served.

Responsibilities

• Serve as first point of contact for clients and address immediate needs.
• Monitor and maintain safety and cleanliness of the facility and common areas.
• Be visibly on the floor, engage with clients, and welcome them.
• Conduct regular facility walk-throughs and document incidents as needed.
• Engage clients in activities and maintain client confidentiality at all times.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings; support crisis de-escalation when needed.
