Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Lead Hydraulic and Drainage Designer to drive complex transportation projects—from highways to municipal systems. You will create and seal designs, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor junior engineers across the project lifecycle.

You will conduct site investigations, contribute to technical guidance, and support proposals. Collaboration with sales and project teams, plus occasional travel, are expected to advance public-sector outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural engineering; PE license; 7 years related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Strong background in transportation hydraulics and drainage engineering.
• Familiarity with MS4 requirements and DOT drainage design standards.
• Experience drafting construction bid documents for public-sector clients.
• Proven technical writing for design reports and memorandums.
• Ability to sign and seal engineering documents when required.

Responsibilities

• Lead hydraulic and drainage design for transportation projects from highways to municipal systems.
• Develop basic to complex designs meeting client needs and regulations.
• Review, approve, and seal designs per federal, state, and local rules.
• Conduct site investigations and adapt designs to conditions.
• Support construction with field inspections and deliver technical reports.
