Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Lead Hydraulic and Drainage Engineer to drive hydraulics design for complex transportation projects. You will oversee project lifecycle, ensure regulatory compliance, and mentor junior engineers across municipal and highway programs.

The role requires PE licensure, 7 years’ experience, and willingness to travel. You will collaborate with clients, prepare technical reports, and contribute to our knowledge base across multiple offices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
• PE license required.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Champion hydraulic and drainage design across the project portfolio, from municipal improvements to major highway systems.
• Develop engineering designs ranging from basic to highly complex, ensuring client needs and safety standards are met.
• Review, approve, and professionally seal completed designs per federal, state, and local regulations.
• Ensure adherence to firm standards and quality control procedures.
• Conduct site investigations and field reviews to validate designs with real-world conditions.
• Support construction execution with field inspections of transportation and drainage infrastructure.
• Produce hydraulic reports, drainage studies, design memoranda, and analyses.
• Present and publish technical papers and participate in industry events.
