Job summary

GRAEF in Chicago seeks a Director of Transportation Engineering to lead the Transportation Engineering Technical Community, report to the Chief Technical Officer, and drive technical excellence across the firm.

You will set firmwide technical standards, promote collaboration across offices, mentor staff, and develop future leaders while maintaining hands-on project engagement and guiding strategic pursuits with clients and leadership.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Minimum of 12 years of transportation engineering experience.
Demonstrated technical and leadership experience.
Strong communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
Passion for technical excellence, quality, and staff development.

Responsibilities

Lead firmwide technical standards, best practices, quality processes, and resources for consistent delivery.
Promote collaboration and work-sharing across offices and connect projects with the right expertise.
Develop people through onboarding, mentoring, technical training, and succession planning.
Shape the firm's technical strategy and invest in emerging technologies and capabilities.
Remain engaged in project work with leadership, design, and oversight, guiding risk and delivery.
