Job summary

Volkert is seeking a Transportation Engineer in Training to support Gulf Region projects across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The role emphasizes data analysis, roadway and traffic studies, and OpenRoads Designer-based plan development.

You will contribute to design plans, traffic signal work, TMPs, and planning studies. Ideal candidates hold a BS in Civil Engineering with an EIT, 2–4 years in traffic/roadway design, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering required.
• EIT Certification required.
• 2–4 years of experience in Traffic or Roadway design.
• Familiarity with DOT design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO.
• Self-starter capable of completing tasks with minimal oversight.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Willingness to develop personal client base.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for project plans, reports, and studies.
• Assist with traffic impact studies, safety studies, and land use planning.
• Prepare roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer.
• Develop traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signals.
• Work on TMPs and signing/pavement marking plans.
• Assist in conceptual layouts, schematics, and signal timings.
• Contribute to reports and calculations for various projects.
• Prepare quantities, costs, specs, and schedules.
