Job summary

Volkert, Inc. is seeking a Transportation Engineer in Training to support our Gulf Region across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Candidates should have 2–4 years in traffic or roadway design and an EIT certification.

You will collect data for plans, assist with traffic studies, and prepare roadway designs using OpenRoads Designer. You’ll participate in traffic signal design, TMPs, and project reports; attend client meetings; and help manage budgets.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering.
• EIT (EI) Certification.
• 2–4 years of experience in traffic or roadway design.
• Familiarity with DOT design standards, MUTCD and AASHTO.
• Self-starter with ability to work with minimal oversight.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and have a valid driver's license and clean MVR.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for project plans, reports, and studies.
• Assist with traffic impact studies, safety analyses, and land use planning.
• Prepare roadway designs using OpenRoads Designer.
• Develop traffic signal plans for new intersections and modifications.
• Create TMPs, signing and pavement marking plans.
• Assist in developing concept layouts, schematics, and signal timings.
• Contribute to engineering reports, calculations, and project estimates.
• Attend client meetings and support project budgets and timelines.
