Job summary

Volkert Inc. is seeking a Transportation Engineer in Training to support our Gulf Region across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering and an EIT, with 2–4 years in traffic or roadway design.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering.
• EIT certification.
• 2–4 years of experience in traffic or roadway design.
• Familiarity with DOT design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with minimal oversight.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable MVR.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for project plans and reports.
• Assist with traffic impact studies, safety studies, and planning efforts.
• Prepare roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer.
• Work on traffic signal design plans for new intersections.
• Develop TMPs, signing and pavement marking plans.
• Prepare conceptual intersection layouts and signal timings.
• Contribute to engineering reports and calculations.
• Prepare project quantities, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Review estimates and drawings for compliance.
• Attend project meetings with clients.
• Support learning budgets and potential business development.
