Job summary

Volkert Inc. is hiring a Transportation Engineer in Training to support our Gulf Region across Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. You will collect data, assist with traffic studies, and develop roadway designs using OpenRoads Designer, contributing to safety and multimodal planning efforts.

Requirements include a BS in Civil Engineering, EIT, 2–4 years in traffic/roadway design, and knowledge of DOT/MUTCD/AASHTO standards. Strong communication and the drive to build a client base are expected.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering.
• EIT certification required.
• 2–4 years of experience in traffic or roadway design.
• Familiarity with DOT design standards, MUTCD, and AASHTO.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Willingness to develop a personal client base and pass pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data for project plans and reports.
• Assist with traffic impact studies and planning tasks.
• Prepare roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer.
• Contribute to traffic signal design, TMPs, and signing plans.
• Assist in project budgets, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Attend project meetings and support business development.
