Job summary

Bolton & Menk in the Duluth office seeks an entry-level Design Engineer, EIT, to support our Transportation team. You will assist project managers and engineers in design and construction activities on transportation projects, helping ensure safe, sustainable and beautiful communities.

This role is open to a May 2027 graduate or an EIT with 1-3 years of experience, with opportunities to grow in CAD software, traffic design, and field observations while collaborating with a skilled team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Certified Engineer-in-Training or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Prior experience in either infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
• Working knowledge of CAD and design software (AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation).
• Interest in traffic software such as SYNCHRO, SIMTraffic, Arcady, VISSIM.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects.
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and draft preliminary reports.
• Assist with project plans, specifications, and cost/quantity estimates.
• Support traffic corridor studies related to operations, safety, and access management.
• Assist with design of traffic control devices including signals, signing, and pavement markings.
• Support construction observation, staking, documentation, and coordination with contractors.
