Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer, EIT, in our Transportation team at the Duluth office. You will assist project engineers with design and construction activities on transportation projects, gaining exposure to traffic studies and ITS implementations.

The role targets May 2027 graduates or engineers with 1–3 years of experience. Benefits include competitive pay, discretionary bonuses, ESOP, 401(k) match, PTO, and health coverage.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Certified Engineer-in-Training or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Prior experience in either infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
• Working knowledge and skills in CAD and design software (i.e. AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation).
• Developing knowledge of specialized traffic software (SYNCHRO, SIMTraffic, Arcady, VISSIM).
• Requires frequent travel during construction season.
• Possess a valid driver’s license as travel to various facilities and job sites may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects.
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
• Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take-off estimates.
• Assist with traffic corridor studies related to traffic operations, safety, modal integration and access management.
• Assist with design of traffic control devices including signals, signing, pavement markings, roadway lighting, ITS, work zones, and detours.
• Construction observation activities may include staking, documentation, measuring/testing, and coordinating with contractors and City staff.
