Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. invites an entry-level Design Engineer (EIT) to join the Transportation team in Duluth. You will assist project managers and engineers on transportation projects, contributing to design, construction phase activities, and traffic studies.

May 2027 graduates or EITs with 1–3 years of experience are welcome. You will work with CAD tools, traffic software, and cost/quantity estimation, while traveling to sites and supporting quality outcomes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
Certified Engineer-in-Training or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
Prior experience in infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
Experience with CAD and design software (AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation).
Knowledge of traffic software (SYNCHRO, SIMTraffic, Arcady, VISSIM) preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects.
Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, and rough drafts of reports and studies.
Assist with project plans, specifications, cost and quantity estimates.
Support traffic studies related to traffic operations, safety, and access management.
Assist with design of traffic control devices including signals, signing, pavement markings, and ITS.
Support construction observation activities including staking, documentation, and coordination with contractors.
