Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. in Duluth, MN, is seeking an entry-level Design Engineer, EIT, to join our Transportation team.

You will support project managers and engineers on design and construction activities for transportation projects, with May 2027 graduates or 1–3 year EITs considered. You'll assist with design calculations, layouts, cost estimates, and traffic studies, while gaining exposure to traffic signals, signing, ITS, and roadway lighting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Certified Engineer-in-Training or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Experience in infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
• CAD and design software proficiency (AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation).
• Knowledge of traffic software (SYNCHRO, SIMTraffic, Arcady, VISSIM).
• Willingness to travel during construction season.
• Valid driver’s license for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects.
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, and prepare rough drafts.
• Assist with project plans, specifications, and cost/quantity estimates.
• Assist with traffic studies related to traffic operations, safety, and access management.
• Assist with design of traffic control devices, ITS, signals, signing, and roadway lighting.
• Support construction observation activities including staking and documentation.
