Job summary

Bolton & Menk, Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer, EIT, to join our Transportation team in our Duluth office.

Open to May 2027 graduates or an EIT with 1-3 years of experience, you will support project managers and engineers on design and construction activities for transportation facilities. You will collaborate on design computations, plans and specifications, and cost estimates while gaining exposure to traffic studies, ITS, and field observations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Certified Engineer-in-Training or able to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Prior experience in either infrastructure design and/or construction observation.
• Working knowledge and skills in CAD and design software (AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation).
• Developing knowledge of specialized traffic software (SYNCHRO, SIMTraffic, Arcady, VISSIM).
• Requires frequent travel during construction season.

Responsibilities

• Assist Project Engineers with design and construction phase activities on transportation projects.
• Perform basic design computations, preliminary layout and design, research and prepare rough drafts of preliminary reports and feasibility studies.
• Assist with project plans and specifications, preparing cost and quantity take-off estimates.
• Assists with traffic corridor studies related to traffic operations, traffic safety, modal integration and access management.
• Assist with design of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting, ITS, work zones, and detours.
• Construction observation activities may include staking, documentation, measuring and testing, and coordinating with contractors and City staff.
