Job summary

Apex Engineering Group is seeking an Engineering Technician to support the Transportation Group with CADD drafting and field services across highway, urban roadway, and municipal projects. The role combines office design work with occasional field oversight in Minnesota or North Dakota, reporting to a Project Manager or Senior Engineer.

Responsibilities include preparing plan drawings, calculating dimensions, and ensuring adherence to CAD standards.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
• Two-year associate degree in engineering technology or drafting highly desirable.
• 2–5 years of experience preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and MicroStation Connect.
• Experience with Google SketchUp Pro or ARCMap GIS a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows/Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Willing to interact with people and work in team environments.
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Willing to travel and stay out of town for RPR duties.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed drawings and layouts using AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Follow directions and support PMs/Engineers in project plan development.
• Calculate dimensions and material quantities for roadway/utility projects.
• Learn and apply CAD software to prepare plan documents.
• Follow CADD standards and client standards when required.
• Assist with construction observation, surveying and materials testing.
• Possibly serve as resident project representative (RPR) in field.
• Communicate progress and issues with supervisors and clients.
• Attend meetings and adhere to safety policies.
• Travel and overtime during construction season as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
