Job summary

1898 & Co., part of Burns & McDonnell, seeks a Transmission Planning Project Manager to lead complex planning studies and client engagements across North America. You will guide study scope, schedules, and deliverables while mentoring engineers and analysts.

The role requires strong knowledge of transmission systems, regulatory standards, and hands-on use of PSS/E, PSLF, and PSCAD. Travel to client sites is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; MBA/MA/PhD is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years in transmission planning studies and 3+ years leading engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of electric transmission systems and planning processes (NERC/FERC).
• Experience with reliability standards and regional RTO/ISO interfaces.
• Proficiency with power-system analysis software (PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, ETAP).

Responsibilities

• Lead full lifecycle of transmission planning projects including scope, schedule, and budget.
• Mentor junior staff and promote technical excellence within the team.
• Engage with clients to define scope, present results, and negotiate contracts.
• Perform advanced studies (steady-state, transient stability, voltage analysis, production costing).
• Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams and communicate progress to stakeholders.
