Job summary

MTM Transit in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Field Safety Manager to oversee safety, compliance, and operations for our fleet. You will monitor drivers, vehicles, and ADA/FTA/DOT compliance, coaching staff and maintaining a strong safety culture across departments.

You will lead field observations, manage performance, respond to incidents, and collaborate with training teams to drive continuous improvements in safety and efficiency for our community-focused transit services.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of transit/paratransit safety management experience.
At least 2 years' experience as a driver in similar service.
At least 1 year experience in Dispatch or Road Supervision.
Valid CDL license and ability to pass pre-employment drug test and DOT physical.
Thorough knowledge of ADA, FTA and DOT safety rules.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
High School Diploma or GED.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other MS Office apps.

Responsibilities

Lead, supervise and mentor drivers to maintain safe, reliable, and compliant operations.
Manage a consistent safety culture across departments: operations, safety and maintenance.
Monitor and manage the Operator's performance in the field.
Provide on-the-spot coaching to drivers to reinforce safe driving practices.
Identify performance issues and take corrective action, up to termination.
Conduct routine field observations of transit routes, vehicles, and drivers.
Monitor driver compliance with company policies and regulations (ADA/FTA/DOT).
Respond promptly to on-route incidents such as accidents or disturbances.
Document and report safety-related incidents, hazards, or violations.
Ensure compliance with PPE and safety standards and ADA requirements.
Audit ADA compliance and other regulatory standards.
Collect and analyze safety data to identify trends and improvements.
Assist in coordinating emergency response efforts when required.
Communicate safety updates and performance feedback to drivers.
Develop performance improvement plans for drivers with recurring issues.
Conduct follow-ups to verify corrective actions are implemented.
Promote accountability and safety culture among staff.
Collaborate with training teams on safety and operational training.
Mentor drivers and support professional growth.
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports for management.
