Job summary

Sound Transit is seeking a Design Manager to lead, manage and coordinate design elements of light rail and bus projects within the Capital Delivery Department. You will oversee design consultant teams and coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Urban Design and Planning to deliver high-quality design.

The role supports senior design leadership on multiple Delivery Team One projects, including ongoing extensions, with a focus on collaboration, governance, and timely execution in a hybrid office

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or Architecture, or related field.
• Professional Civil Engineer license or Professional Architect license issued by the State of Washington.
• Strong knowledge of project management and contract management principles.

Responsibilities

• Leads a technical team of subject matter experts and inspires creativity to solve design problems.
• Supervises, coaches, trains and motivates staff; Supports work force planning efforts for the project.
• Manages multiple smaller scale transit related designs across disciplines and coordination.
• Provides cross departmental program, design and requirements coordination with Operations, IT, and other teams.
• Administers design consultant contracts including scopes, reviews, budgets, and risk assessments.
• Accountable for design resolutions and conformance to budgets and schedules.
• Supports liaison with third parties and regulatory approvals.
• Prepares staff reports and represents Sound Transit in meetings.
