Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support instruction for students with various disabilities in elementary and high schools. You will reinforce learning, provide one-on-one tutoring, assist with daily living tasks, and help maintain student records under the supervision of a Special Education teacher.

The role involves assisting with behavior management, field trips, and basic personal care tasks as needed, including CPR training if required.

Qualifications

• Valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE or eligibility through 60 college credits.
• Successful completion of paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro).
• Ability to work with students with various disabilities and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction and reinforce learning for students with disabilities.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene support as needed.
• Assist in daily living skills and use of adaptive equipment.
• Take notes for students who need help with recording information.
• Maintain records of student behavior and attend field trips.
