Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support teachers and students with disabilities in both elementary and high school settings under the guidance of a Special Education teacher. The role involves one-on-one tutoring, personal care, and assisting with daily living activities and mobility equipment.

You will reinforce learning concepts, assist with behavior records, and accompany students to activities and appointments.

Qualifications

• Certification requirements: valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license or equivalent.
• Knowledge, abilities and skill: good knowledge of disabilities, English grammar and spelling, basic mathematics.
• CPR training is highly desirable and may be required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with various disabilities per IEPs.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services as needed.
• Assist with positioning tools, equipment and wheelchairs in classroom.
• Accompany students to swimming pools and medical clinics for assistance.
• Take notes and help maintain behavior records; support field trips and class activities.
