Job summary

Chicago Public Schools seeks a Special Education Classroom Assistant to support instructional activities for students with disabilities under the supervision of a Special Education teacher. The role includes guiding learning, providing one-on-one tutoring, assisting with daily living skills, and transporting students as needed.

Applicants must have a valid ISBE paraprofessional license and be prepared for CPR training if not certified.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from ISBE.
• CPR training completion required or to be completed as a condition of employment if not already certified.
• Good knowledge of English grammar and spelling; basic math.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and complete basic reports.

Responsibilities

• Assist in instruction of students with disabilities under supervision of a Special Education teacher.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene assistance as needed.
• Assist with daily living skills and use of equipment in classrooms.
• Accompany students on class trips and to medical appointments; maintain records of behavior.
