Job summary

Ohlone College is seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to provide comprehensive interpretation and transliteration services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. The role requires fluency in ASL and English and adherence to professional ethics.

Interpretations cover lectures, exams, meetings, and campus events, with ongoing professional development encouraged. The position is temporary, limited to 165 working days per fiscal year, and candidates will be kept on file for future needs.

Qualifications

• Sign language interpretation and transliteration services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
• Must follow RID CPC and maintain professional ethics.
• Fluency in English and ASL with high concentration.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation and transliteration in ASL, oral interpretation, or other methods.
• Analyze environmental factors to improve accessibility.
• Interpret lectures, presentations, and discussions; provide voice interpretation as required.
• Prepare by reviewing materials and vocabulary.
• Build positive relationships with students and staff; collaborate with faculty.
• Stay current with interpretation practices and legislation through development opportunities.
• Demonstrate cultural competence and inclusivity.
• Participate in training and development opportunities.
• Perform related duties to support accessibility.
