Job summary

Cal Poly Humboldt is hiring an American Sign Language Interpreter to provide interpreting services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in classroom and instructional settings. The role supports access to lectures, discussions, and academic activities, adapting to student language preferences and technical vocabularies as required.

The position is temporary, intermittent hourly, non-benefitted, non-exempt, and on-site with in-person work at the Campus Disability Resource Center.

Qualifications

• Experience interpreting in instructional settings; ability to convey spoken content into sign language accurately.
• Familiarity with specialized vocabulary for academic contexts and technical terms.
• Commitment to accessibility and culturally appropriate interpretation.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpreting services to facilitate communication between Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing students and others in instructional settings.
• Interpret spoken English into sign language and vice versa with accuracy and cultural sensitivity.
• Support access to classroom instruction by interpreting lectures, discussions, and academic activities.
• Adjust interpreting approaches to meet student language preferences and needs.
