Job summary

Botetourt County Department of Social Services is seeking a Benefit Programs Specialist II to determine and re-determine eligibility for financial assistance, SNAP, Medicaid, and related social services. The role requires applying policies with some independent judgment and maintaining accurate client records.

The starting salary is $32,415 per year, with a comprehensive benefits package. Telework may be allowed at the department's discretion, and duties include case management and coordination

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of public service organizations and eligibility guidelines.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals in writing and verbally.
• Experience with interviewing, data collection, and case records management.
• Basic math skills to calculate percentages and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Interviews applicants for assistance and re-determines ongoing eligibility.
• Explains benefit programs and analyzes need for assistance.
• Processes applications and determines eligibility and benefit levels.
• Monitors cases for changes and updates benefits within guidelines.
• Evaluates employability and refers to Social Workers as needed.
• Maintains client records and prepares reports.
• Explains programs and rights to applicants and recipients.
• Identifies potential fraud and refers for investigation.
