Job summary

Miami Valley Hospital is seeking a Telephone Operator to provide a welcoming first impression and handle incoming, outgoing, interfacility calls for hospital services. You will relay on-call information, patient information, and directory assistance while monitoring critical alarms and PBX communications.

Shifts are 7A-4:30P, 5P-1:30A, or 11:30P-6A with PRN options. Requirements include a High School diploma, a 30 WPM typing test, and 1–3 years of related experience; preferred experience in

  • Typing test of at least 30 words per minute.
  • 1–3 years of related experience in telephone or call-center roles.
  • Experience in patient information or hospital communications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process incoming, outgoing, and interfacility calls to support hospital services.
  • Provide on-call information, patient information, and directory assistance.
  • Monitor alarms and use PBX, wireless or Vocera messaging to coordinate response.
  • Document response logs for regulatory reporting (e.g., Code Red).

TELEPHONE OPERATOR

SHIFTS ARE EITHER:

7A TO 4:30P (FIRST SHIFT)

5P TO 1:30A (SECOND SHIFT)

11:30P TO 6A (THIRD SHIFT)

PRN, WORK AS NEEDED BASED ON DEPT. / 8 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD

The Telephone Operator provides a welcoming and positive first impression of Premier Health, processing incoming, outgoing, network and interfacility calls regarding hospital services, provides on-call information and processing, patient information, and directory assistance. The operator monitors and responds to critical alarms (fire, gas, bone freezer, Hill-Rom-Alert Notification (Code Blue), Weather Station). The operator communicates the emergency using the public broadcast system (PBX), wireless and/or Vocera messaging, enterprise on-call scheduling system, to ensure appropriate response teams or on-call physician(s) respond to the emergency in life/death situations. The operator monitors/documents a response team log and a log of each emergency for regulatory reporting (i.e. Code Red). The Telephone Operator processes pages via audio, wireless messaging, and/or radio equipment.
