Job summary

Somerville Public Schools seeks a Technology Specialist/Trainer to provide instruction, training, and resources to facilitate classroom technology use and student knowledge. The role includes integrating technology to enhance learning, installing hardware/software, and supporting servers and networks.

The position also involves delivering technology-related courses and professional development to district staff as directed by the Director of Technology.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Computer Technology or Information Systems plus 3–5 years of experience, or equivalent training and experience.
• Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
• Ability to perform multiple technical tasks and periodically upgrade skills to meet changing conditions.
• Basic math including fractions, percentages, and ratios; ability to read technical information and create documents.

Responsibilities

• Assess malfunctions of computer and network hardware, software, or devices to identify repair needs.
• Assist the Technology Department in managing network equipment to maintain site operations.
• Provide remote assistance to troubleshoot workstation issues.
• Configure classroom servers and shared devices to ensure operational use of applications.
• Install hardware, peripherals, and software across classrooms, labs, and media centers.
• Maintain computers and audiovisual equipment to keep them safe and functional.
• Document activities and maintain records for reference and audits.
• Train staff on software and hardware operations to maximize capabilities.
• Contribute to efficiency by assisting other personnel as needed.
