Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Technology in administration and maintenance of applications and infrastructure.
  • Manage service desk tickets and prioritize critical issues.
  • Provide classroom technology support in person, remotely, and by phone.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software, including AV equipment and video conferences.
  • Deploy, install, and repair devices, OS, and applications for staff and classrooms.
  • Assist with network and system issues across district locations.
  • Lead technology projects as directed by the Director of Technology.
  • Handle user account management and training material creation.
  • Provide staff training on software use and device operation.
  • Assist in integration and troubleshooting for door access, cameras, and telephony.
  • Serve as backup to the Director of Technology; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Department: Technology Department

Reports to: Technology Director and/or Superintendent of Schools

General Summary: As a member of the Department of Technology, the Technology Assistant is responsible for providing exceptional IT support to faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, and guests. The Technology Assistant provides all aspects of IT support to our school community. This includes troubleshooting hardware and software issues, resolving network problems, and managing IT assets.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the Director of Technology in the administration and maintenance of Application and Infrastructure including but not limited to PowerSchool, Active Directory, Linewize, Google Admin, Phone System, Camera Systems, Intercom System, Clever, Educlimber, and Cloud Infrastructure.
  • Manage service desk tickets and identify and prioritize critical tickets.
  • Provide classroom technology support for staff and students in person, remotely and/or over the phone.
  • Perform computer related hardware and software troubleshooting and repair including audio and video conference rooms as well as events as requested by administration.
  • Deploy, install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot technology devices, operating systems, and applications in support of staff and classrooms including but not limited to computers, mobile devices, printers, projectors, interactive panels, iPads, and audio-video equipment.
  • Assist with network and system problems in other school building locations as needed.
  • Lead projects as assigned by the Director of Technology.
  • Provide support for user account management.
  • Create and maintain training materials.
  • Assist in training staff on software use, troubleshooting, and maintaining / operating computers, peripherals, phones and voicemail.
  • Perform system and device integration and troubleshooting for door access, surveillance, telephony, network pulls and patch mapping.
  • Serve as the primary backup for the Director of Technology.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience with Technical repair including troubleshooting problems, upgrading or replacing hardware and software, diagnosing and resolving technical problems, and developing systems for technical repair/maintenance.
  • Experience creating user guides and training materials, training experience a plus.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills in working with students, school community, staff and external agencies.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with strong organizational skills.
  • Project management experience a plus.
  • Experience working in a school setting preferred.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and has high level understanding of FERPA, COPPA, SOPPA (MI), and CIPA.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral which are necessary to maintain a strong service desk, customer first attitude.
  • Ability to learn new computer systems with guidance quickly.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in Computer/Software use including Google Workspace Suite (Chrome, Docs, Sheets, Admin).
  • Experience exercising confidentiality and sound judgment in dealing with districts, staff, students, vendors, and operations.
  • Ability to deal with issues in a fair manner, treat diverse populations and personalities with dignity and respect, and act in a highly ethical manner.
  • Knowledge of Networking Systems including WIFI, Access Controls, Security Cameras.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment yet maintain flexibility in thinking and actions.
  • PowerSchool proficiency is a plus.

  • Able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Required ability to drive between district buildings.
  • Professional appearance; professional and positive attitude; and maintain organized work area.
  • May require job travel on rare occasions for training using personal vehicle.

Must be able to communicate with others and clearly understand normal conversations in person and on the telephone. Employees may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal. Requires the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions. May require some travel. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

Days/Hours: Year-round; 8 hours per day (7:30am - 4:00pm with 30 minute unpaid lunch); 260 days/year

Rate of Pay: $20/hour
