Job summary

Charta Health is seeking a Tech Lead Manager to own a pod of engineers, contribute code, review designs, and guide technical direction. You will balance hands-on coding with hiring, feedback, scoping, and removing blockers, shaping the team’s growth and output.

You will lead problem analysis, architecture, and production-quality development while partnering with product and design. This player-coach role emphasizes delivering impactful healthcare-focused software and growing engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 5 years of professional experience in software development shipping production code.
• At least 1 year of direct people management or formal tech lead experience with a track record of growing engineers.
• Fluency in backend languages such as Python, Node.js, Java, or C/C++. Next.js/React a plus.
• Experience building, testing, and deploying microservices.
• Distributed systems development experience; performance optimization a plus.
• Interest or experience in generative AI technologies, incl. LLMs.
• Experience with AWS, PostgreSQL, Docker, and ECS/Kubernetes is a plus.
• Strong communication skills across engineering, product, and other teams.
• Willingness to stay hands-on; not a path out of code.

Responsibilities

• Setting objectives and priorities for your pod and maintaining roadmap alignment.
• Owning problem analysis, solution design, and architecture for your team's surface area.
• Writing and reviewing production code and setting quality standards.
• Managing, coaching, and developing a team of up to five engineers with performance feedback.
• Partnering with product, design, and client-facing teams to turn ambiguous problems into scoped work.
• Running hiring loops and raising engineering org quality beyond your own team.
