Job summary

YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor to lead swimming classes at Tri County YMCA in Menomonee Falls, WI. You will create a welcoming, safe environment and promote YMCA values while delivering instruction and tracking progress.

The role requires passing an advanced swimming test, valid First-Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and the ability to communicate with members and parents. Applicants aged 15 may qualify with lifeguard certification.

Qualifications

• Must pass an advanced swimming test.
• Must have a current state approved First-Aid certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
• Ability to exercise mature judgment and ensure safety of participants.
• Must communicate YMCA program information to members/participants.
• Must be observant and safety conscious.
• Minimum age 15 with lifeguard certification if applicant is 15.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming, nurturing environment for members and guests.
• Exercise mature judgment and make safety-based decisions.
• Develop rapport with members, participants, and staff.
• Work as part of a team with other staff.
• Teach swim classes per the USA Swimming Lesson Program with enthusiasm.
• Motivate participants through swimming and aquatics.
• Complete class paperwork as required by supervisor.
• Communicate student progress to participants/parents.
• Maintain a positive, responsible attitude at all times.
• Attend in-service trainings as required.
• Uphold YMCA core values in facilities and community.
• Work scheduled shifts including weekends with substitutes approved by the Aquatics Director.
• Understand how children learn at various ages and relate to them engagingly.
