Job summary

YMCA of Greater Waukesha County is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor at West Suburban YMCA in Wauwatosa, WI. You will provide leadership, instruction, and a safe environment for students, while championing the YMCA's core values.

Responsibilities include conducting classes per the YMCA Swimming Lesson Program, maintaining safety, communicating progress to families, and collaborating with staff. Must pass a swimming test and hold current First-Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer; lifeguard

Qualifications

• Must pass an advanced swimming test.
• Must have a current state-approved First-Aid certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
• Ability to exercise mature judgment and ensure safety of participants.
• Effective communication of YMCA programs to members/participants.
• Applicants aged 15 must have lifeguard certification.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming, nurturing and genuine environment for members and guests.
• Exercise mature judgment to ensure safety.
• Develop rapport with members, participants and staff.
• Work with other staff as part of a team.
• Conduct swim classes per YMCA’s Swimming Lesson Program, maximizing participation.
• Motivate others in self-awareness and self-confidence through aquatics.
• Complete class paperwork as required by supervisor.
• Communicate student progress to participants and/or their parents.
• Maintain a positive attitude and demeanor at all times.
• Attend in-service trainings as required.
• Uphold YMCA core values in all interactions.
• Work weekend shifts; arrange substitutes with Aquatics Director.
• Understand how children learn at various ages and engage them.
