Job summary

The instructor will conduct lessons per the YMCA program, motivate learners, and report progress to families. Must pass a swimming test and hold First-Aid and CPR certifications; lifeguard cert is required for 15-year-olds.

Qualifications

• Must pass an advanced swimming test.
• Current state-approved First-Aid certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
• Ability to communicate YMCA programs to members and participants.
• Minimum age 15; lifeguard certification required for applicants aged 15.

Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming, nurturing and genuine environment for all members and guests.
• Exercise mature judgment and ensure safety of participants.
• Conduct swim classes per the YMCA's Swimming Lesson Program with enthusiasm and high participation.
• Motivate participants in self-awareness and confidence through swimming.
• Communicate student progress to participants and parents throughout the session.
• Attend in-service trainings as required and uphold YMCA core values.
• Work scheduled shifts including weekends; arrange substitutes with Aquatics Director approval.
