Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in the operating room under the surgeon’s direction. You will handle sponging, suctioning, cutting sutures, and retractors, while providing general patient care and maintaining department upkeep as delegated by licensed personnel.

The role emphasizes relationship-centered care, adherence to hospital policies, and collaboration with the OR team to ensure safe and efficient patient care in a non-exempt environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or military training equivalency required.
• Certification as CST/CSA/TS-C and BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in prepping room, equipment and supplies for planned procedures and ensures setup is ready before surgeon scrubs.
• Supports the surgeon during procedures as surgical technologist for a variety of procedures including orthopedics, gynecology, general, ENT, ophthalmology, urology, spine, neurology, and oral/maxillofacial.
• Assists circulating RN with sponge, instrument, and needle counts.
• Accurately communicates updates for surgeon preference cards.
