Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support operating room functions under surgeon direction, handling tasks such as sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, and retractors while maintaining sterile technique. The role includes data recording, reporting observations, and ensuring patient safety within the OR team.

The position requires CST/CSA/TS-C certification and BLS; expect on-site work with potential on-call requirements and collaboration across departments.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates skills and competencies to safely perform assigned job tasks.
• Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English for safety-critical duties.
• Ability to communicate with patients, physicians and staff with courteous, service-oriented language.
• Knowledge and use of hospital database such as EPIC and access to department information
• Understanding of medical terminology
• Knowledge of surgical procedures, case progression, observations, and potential complications
• Knowledge and competent use of procedure equipment and instrument sets
• Knowledge of surgical supplies and restocking
• Appropriate sterile technique and aseptic practices
• Competent decontamination and use of autoclave equipment

Responsibilities

• Assists in prepping room, equipment and supplies for planned procedures.
• Supports the surgeon during procedures across specialties and provides surgical assistance.
• Assists circulating RN with sponge, instrument, needle and other counts.
• Communicates updates for surgeon preference cards.
• Maintains sterile field and proper handling of instruments and supplies
