Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required.
• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or military training in Surgical Technology/Operating Room Specialist.
• 2 years OR experience as a surgical technologist.
• Current NBSTSA or NCCT certification preferred.
• Meets all ST II qualifications of Surgical Tech Ladder.

Responsibilities

• Assists in aseptic technique and instrument handling.
• Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies pre/during/after procedures.
• Assists RN circulator with patient prep, supplies, equipment and specimen disposition.
• Monitors sterility and ensures proper use of supplies; charges documented.
• Monitors and documents sterilization activities.
• Participates in department in-services and Performance Improvement processes.
• Engages in education opportunities to improve competency.
• Assists in policy, procedure, and standard development.
• May serve as a preceptor or clinical resource.
