Job summary

Cody-Regional-Health is seeking a Surgical Technician/Technologist to assist the surgical team in the operating room, preparing the operating room, instruments, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures; establishing and maintaining the sterile field; anticipating the surgeon's needs; and performing intraoperative duties in accordance with policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Possess a certificate or associate degree from an accredited surgical technology program or may receive on-the-job training based on approval of Clinical Administrator/Clinical Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for scheduled procedures by reviewing surgeon preference cards and pulling required instruments, supplies, implants, equipment, and other items needed for the assigned case.
• Prepare and organize the operating room and establish the sterile field using aseptic technique.
• Arrange instruments, equipment, medications, solutions, and supplies on the sterile field for the procedure.
• Maintain sterile-field integrity and communicate any contamination or breaks in aseptic technique.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team and safely pass instruments and supplies during the procedure.
• Participate in surgical counts with Circulating RN and report discrepancies.
• Handle specimens and transfer to Circulating RN as required.
• Assist with implants and implantable devices handling and documentation.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, and other perioperative activities.
• Maintain sharps safety and account for instruments and needles.
• Prepare used instruments for decontamination and transport.
• Assist with cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
• Support OR turnover, cleaning, restocking, and preparation for subsequent procedures.
• Inspect instruments and equipment for cleanliness and report issues.
• Follow infection-prevention, bloodborne-pathogen, hazardous-material, sharps-safety and PPE requirements.
• Protect patient rights and confidentiality.
