Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to support surgeon-specific operative procedures, maintain sterile fields, and coordinate instrument setup across cases. The role requires clinical readiness, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to diverse surgical specialties. Mentorship and teaching responsibilities are included.

The position supports direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced environment, with on-call expectations and opportunities for professional growth within Carle Health.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days (AHA)
• Associate's degree or Certificate in Surgical Technology

Responsibilities

• Prepare for surgeon-specific procedures with timely, accurate setup.
• Ensure instruments, equipment and sutures are complete and functional.
• Set up sterile field and scrub in before the patient enters the room.
• Organize back table and mayo setup for smooth case transitions.
• Anticipate case needs and coordinate with multiple team members.
• Precept and mentor surgical techs and RNs as needed.
• Perform first scrub, first assist and second scrub roles as required.
• Complete case closing activities including dressing, transfer and turnover.
