Job summary

The Surgical Technologist 2 at Baylor Scott & White Health supports the operating room team during surgeries under RN supervision. This role ensures a safe OR by preparing instruments, equipment, and supplies and by maintaining sterile technique throughout procedures.

Based in Round Rock, TX, the PRN Days shift offers teamwork, exposure to diverse cases, and opportunities to advance in a large healthcare system that values patient safety and high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Familiar with infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards.
• Knowledge of sterile and aseptic technique theory and application.
• Understanding of human anatomy and surgical procedures to assist the team.

Responsibilities

• Discuss special needs with surgeon and scrub into surgery.
• Prepare operative site and clipping as needed.
• Set up and organize instrument tables for procedures.
• Identify damaged or incomplete trays and rectify discrepancies.
• Arrange sterile setups according to procedure and open only needed supplies.
• Ensure proper functioning of instruments and equipment during procedures.
• Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and hand sterile supplies to team.
• Assist with draping and positioning the patient.
• Receive specimens following protocol and pass to circulating nurse.
• Assist with placement of dressings after cases.
• Disassemble and decontaminate instruments post-case.
• Prepare soiled instrumentation for transport to decontamination area.
• Maintain inventory and records of sterile equipment and supplies.
