Job summary

Atrium Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will assist in aseptic technique, prepare supplies and instruments, and ensure proper handling of specimens throughout procedures.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, current BLS, and completion of an accredited surgical technology program; prior OR experience (2 years) is preferred and NBSTSA/NCCT certification is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Aseptic technique knowledge and application to procedures.
• Assist in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments.
• Assist RN circulator in patient prep and room turnover.
• Follow department policies and procedures.
• Monitor sterility of supplies and document charges.
• Document sterilization activities and completion.
• Attend in-services and participate in improvement processes.
• Pursue further competency through education opportunities.
• Contribute to development of policies, procedures, and standards.
• Serve as a clinical resource and preceptor when needed.
• Lead or participate in unit clinical projects as required.

Responsibilities

• Possesses a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application.
• Assists in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments prior, during and after surgical procedure.
• Assists Registered Nurse circulator in preparation of patient, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment and proper disposition of all specimens; assists with all aspects of room turnover.
• Performs duties according to department policy and procedure.
• Monitors surgical supplies for sterility prior to use and ensures that supplies are used in a judicious manner, charges are documented/submitted accurately and appropriately.
• Monitors and documents sterilization activities for completion.
• Attends in-services/staff meetings; exhibits knowledge of current department related issues and participates in Performance Improvement Process.
• Participates in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
• Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and standards.
• Serves as a preceptor and a clinical resource to others.
• Assumes responsibility for individual specified unit clinical projects as required.
