Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is seeking a PRN Surgical Technologist Cert to support the Operating Room team in the Northeast Houston area. The Technologist assists physicians with instruments, prepares the OR, maintains sterility, and ensures patient safety during procedures.

The role requires graduation from a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent, certification, BCLS, and prefers about 1 year of experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training is required.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology.
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by pulling the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
  • Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications.
  • Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology in order to prepare and assist in surgical/endo procedures.
  • Maintains a safe sterile field by: a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a timeout with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety.
  • Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical/ endo procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instrument to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient.
  • Understands the principles of and is able to competently assist a physician during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
  • Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow through until problems are addressed or corrected.
  • Alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated.
  • Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.
  • Participates in department’s process improvement activities.

Job Summary And Qualifications

The Operating Room Technician has the responsibility of supporting the mission of the hospital to be the most comprehensive, cost effective provider of quality healthcare services for the Northeast Houston Area. The Technician is assigned to the Operating Room to assist physicians with instruments during the surgical procedure. This position has the responsibility of supporting the mission of the hospital which is to provide patients with the highest quality of health care within an atmosphere of genuine care. The Technician is responsible for the preparation of room and needed supplies and equipment for assigned cases and is responsible for all instruments and insuring needed counts are completed. Employees will be responsible for knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the infant/child, neonate, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.

What you will do in this role

What Qualifications You Will Need
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.
