Job summary

Texas Orthopedic Hospital is offering a Surgical Technologist Extern PRN opportunity in Houston. You will gain hands-on surgical experience under the supervision of a Circulating RN and the surgical team, helping ensure patient safety and a sterile operative environment.

Responsibilities include room setup, patient transport, assisting during procedures, and maintaining cleanliness and infection control. Eligibility requires BLS within 30 days and enrollment in an accredited Surgical Tech

Qualifications

  • BLS certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Tech Program with 6–8 months remaining before completion.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and stock the operating room with instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with patient care before, during, and after surgery including transport and positioning.
  • Support the surgical team by handling sterile instruments and assisting with counts.

Job Summary And Qualifications

As a Surgical Technologist Extern, you’ll gain invaluable hands‑on surgical experience while working alongside a highly skilled team committed to caring for and improving human life – who are eager to welcome you into our mission. Under the guidance of the Circulating RN and experienced surgical staff, you’ll expand your skills by assisting throughout the surgical process and helping ensure the surgical suite remains clean, organized, and focused on patient safety.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Organizing and stocking the operating room with instruments, supplies, and equipment to ensure each procedure is fully prepared and supported
  • Assisting with patient care before, during, and after surgery, including transport, positioning, and comfort
  • Supporting the surgical team during procedures by managing sterile instruments, passing tools, and helping with counts and equipment during procedures
  • Helping maintain a clean, safe, and sterile environment through room turnover, restocking, and infection control practices
  • Communicating clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and team members while protecting patient privacy and safety
Qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date'
  • To be enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Tech Program with only 6-8 months left before completion.
