Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball is seeking a Surgical Tech to join our OR team. You will assist in preparing for surgical procedures, maintain sterile fields, and support surgeons with instrument handling across a range of procedures.

The ideal candidate has active Surgical Technology certification, BCLS, and a clinical background; 1 year of experience preferred. We offer comprehensive benefits and a collaborative environment at our 350+ bed hospital in the Tomball area.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
• Certification in Surgical Technology
• Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred

Responsibilities

• Applies aseptic technique and maintains a sterile field.
• Prepares for surgery by pulling supplies and instruments.
• Recognizes and uses different surgical instruments and their applications.
• Assists with procedures with knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Maintains sterile field by proper handling of sharps, medications, electrocautery, and timeout.
• Sets up for surgical/endo procedures and counts supplies to prevent leaving objects inside the patient.
• Assists physician during procedures and understands the procedure.
• Differentiates sutures and their applications.
• Maintains teamwork during perioperative care.
• Participates in department process improvement activities

Job Summary And Qualifications

• Demonstrates knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field.
• Demonstrates knowledge of preparing for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate supplies and instruments for the procedure.
• Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications.
• Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology in order to prepare and assist in surgical/endo procedures.
• Maintains a safe sterile field by: a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a “timeout” with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety.
• Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical/ endo procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instrument to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient.
• Understands the principles of and is able to competently assist a physician during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself.
• Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications.
• Demonstrates the ability to follow through until problems are addressed or corrected.
• Alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated.
• Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase.
• Participates in department’s process improvement activities.

What Qualifications You Will Need

• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
• Certification in Surgical Technology
• Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
• 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred
