Job summary

Sturdy Memorial Hospital is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to act as a liaison among patients, surgeons, clinical staff, and hospital departments to ensure timely, accurate coordination of surgical services. Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a medical office, surgical practice, specialty clinic, ambulatory care setting, or healthcare environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with professional interactions with patients, providers, staff, and external partners.
• Knowledge of insurance verification, referrals, prior authorizations, and scheduling processes.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy, organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate with surgeons, hospital schedulers, PCPs, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills to support patients.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
• Proficiency coordinating complex processes and resolving scheduling barriers.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures per physician, patient, OR, and organizational requirements.
• Communicate preoperative, operative, and postoperative information to patients, including preparation.
• Collaborate with OR and other procedural areas to align schedules.
• Manage physician block time utilization with OR.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits for scheduled services.
• Facilitate required insurance authorizations and referrals.
• Assist physicians with insurance appeals and related procedures.
• Apply scheduling protocols and organizational requirements.
• Obtain medical records, imaging, tests and other documentation for planning.
• Determine preoperative testing and clearances based on protocols.
• Arrange preop imaging, labs, and other services as required.
• Monitor completion of preop requirements and follow up on outstanding items.
• Identify barriers delaying surgery and facilitate resolution.
• Coordinate communication among patients, physicians, staff, OR, anesthesia and departments.
• Maintain accurate surgical scheduling and patient data in EMR.
• Process changes, cancellations, and rescheduling.
• Schedule postop appointments and ensure follow-up.
• Track cases through scheduling and preoperative process for timely surgery.
