Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital is seeking a Special Unit Surgery Coordinator to manage all scheduled and unscheduled surgeries and patient admissions. You will collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to optimize space and prioritize cases, ensuring accurate data in the patient index and CPT coding.

Daily hours are Monday–Friday, 7:30am–6:00pm or 8:00am–6:30pm, with duties including triage of appointments, coordination of services, and communication with patients and families to

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• Two years of related experience or three years of customer service concierge experience
• Working knowledge of computerized appointment/OR scheduling systems, patient billing, insurance processing or related office functions
• Proficiency with PCs and PC-based software
• Knowledge of Word and Excel

Responsibilities

• Ensure accuracy of system-wide master patient index and capture patient demographics
• Validate physician information and ensure accurate collection
• Validate and capture primary, secondary and tertiary insurance coverage for billing
• Identify patients needing financial counseling for services
• Triage appointments based on diagnosis, patient preferences and physician specialty
• Coordinate services and provide special instructions requested by patients and physicians
• Perform intra- and inter-department scheduling per physician orders
• Receive orders and schedule procedures according to protocol
• Ensure accuracy of data including CPT coding and case information
• Enter updates and changes to scheduled procedures/surgeries
• Maintain provider schedules and coordinate multiple physician schedules
• Liaise with admitting office for reservations and updates
• Act as a resource to department personnel on daily activity
• Communicate with patients and families to provide instructions and resources
